Trail Updates

For those of you looking to brave the cold, all the trails heading through and out of Waukesha are pretty much clear (aside from last nights dusting of snow). Only the Lake Country and New Berlin trail may have a few small patches of ice left but not anything to worry about if you're careful.
Yesterday, before the snow.

On my commute yesterday morning I noticed a few things going on trailwise to start the new year. First the boardwalk along the Fox River Parkway behind Target on Sunset has been completely removed. It was always a fun excursion off the paved trail but after the Great Flood of 2008 it was badly damaged and had been closed since. Hopefully there are plans to bring it back.

Today

Next was the continuation of the Cushing Park Rd. trail in Delafield looks to be underway. I noticed a stretch from the Lapham Peak grounds to Abitz Road is staked and cleared.
The paved trail is planned to connect the Glacial Drumlin Trail along Hwy. 18 to the Lake Country trail in Delafield and ultimately to the Lapham Peak State Park entrance on Hwy C.
Current extension from Delafield to Lapham Peak grounds along Cushing Park Rd.

The new trail looks to wind a bit through the Lapham prairie. In my opinion, Cushing Park Road is one of the best roads in the area to ride as it is, but I will happily add a minute or two to my commute for an even safer and scenic trip to work or trail to trail.
