Last Thursday, the Spring City Spinners invited Kevin Hardman from the Wisconsin Bicycle Federation and Sonia and Ron from the Waukesha Bicycle Alliance to their member meeting at Cyclesmith to give presentations about what our groups are doing in relation to cycling.
It was a great opportunity for us to present our vision: (More people riding more places) and our objectives to an interested and engaged audience. It was also a good opportunity to attempt to kick-start our membership drive. We developed a flyer, only to realize that our mailing address wasn't on it. Ahh well. It was a learning experience. I am hoping we have some more polished materials to distribute in a couple weeks at the Wisconsin Bike Summit.
The Spinners also presented us with a $400 check for our organization, which was very generous of them. I know that they want a good portion of that money to go towards the Bike to Work day activities. I am sure we will have no problem spending that money on printing, food, and other goodies for cyclists.
The Spinners raise most of their money by putting on the Pedal the Kettle ride every fall, which is a beautiful ride through Lake Country at one of the nicest times of the year to go riding (as long as it's not raining). I encourage you to try it out sometime!
